Side Ponytail Manifesto

So during the weeks leading up to Fiesta Del Sol, Rebeca (an artsy, awesome mujer) and I played around with the idea of the side pony tail revolution, as the fiesta happened, and it was sunday night- hours and hours of exhaustion, sleep deprivation lead to our mental shutdown. Lunacy took the chance and stepped in. We created the side ponytail revolution and shortly after fiesta, crafted the manifesto below, enjoy and if you agree, post a comment and become a part of the new wave of revolution!!!!

Side Ponytail Manifesto:

Much as the side pony tail is a fashion statement that’s a little wacky, and definitely outside of the main stream, so are we, the side pony tail revolutionaries.

We stand together to continue a revolution of peace and love throughout the world through the symbol of the side pony tail. Laugh if you will, but once you start laughing, continue reading.

We stand for peace, equality, social justice, we are pro feminism, pro environmentalism, pro gay rights, pro disabled, pro animals, pro swamp thing,  pro everyone. If you are straight, if you are gay if you are white, brown, purple, speckled, you belong with us.

What about bald people, people with short hair that can’t sport a side ponytail? Are they discriminated in this powerful movement? NO.  As long as you are willing to wear an imaginary ponytail or for those who think more concretely, a colorful yarn side ponytail, you are in! 

We stand for the breaking of barriers, the tearing of fences that stop all people from a right to happiness, peace and a right to raise families safely and equally. But, we take this a step further, revolution is serious, hard work. While we commit to being serious and to yelling and shouting when our voices need to be heard, we also understand something else: Revolution also requires fun! What’s a revolution without a little dancing and a little painting? We need our cultures, our flavors, to empower ourselves and embolden us! Our rich varied histories and backgrounds need to be shared and expressed and valued in this revolution! Side ponytails are more than a fashion statement; they stand for a call to revolution.

With a side ponytail and a smile, we WILL paint, dance, and BE the revolution!

Raise those shovels, those paintbrushes, let’s go dismantle some fences, talk to people, and create the world we want!!!

Concrete steps- not Styrofoam but long lasting so concrete steps it is

Be conscious about why you are doing what you do.

Raise the paintbrush, dabble its colors all over your canvas knowing.

Dance your steps, sway your hips knowing

Organize people around issues affecting them.

Talk to people, excite each other with intellectual stimulation.

Do not be afraid to turn around face mainstream and walk against it--- start with a side pony tail.

Embrace your power and boldly go.

Embrace and love yourself.
